Ahhh the final weekender of the year has come to a close. The Rhythm Riot is a rock'n'roll, rhythm and blues festival held on the south coast of the UK, and it has been a staple in the calendar for many years. In fact, it's where two parts of Team Splendette met many moons ago!
We trundled off in the rain early Thursday morning, suitcases brimming with our vintage clobber and the car boot stacked with stuff Eeva was going to sell at the vintage market on the Sunday morning. Five hours later we arrived at the Camber Sands, near Rye in East Sussex, site where the four day festival is held every year.
Luckily the weather brightened up for most of the weekend which allowed us to let our hair down without ruining our perfect vintage set. The days tend to be pretty quiet at the Rhythm Riot which gives us lots of time to mooch around the dozens of stalls selling amazing true vintage and awesome reproduction. We don’t trade at the Rhythm Riot but its always fabulous to see our pals over at Ozone Clothing (who do stock our jewellery!), Di Brooks of Outerlimitz and Shazam Vintage.
The evenings are when the parties really get going. The live music was spectacular every single night with our favourites being Tammi Savoy (USA), Velvet Candles (Spain), Pat Capocci (Australia) and the big finale tribute to Ruth Brown on the Sunday night.
It's always lovely to see everyone wearing their more 1940s inspired vintage garb and the Rhythm Riot gives everyone a chance to get a bit more glitzy and glamorous than other weekenders, as well as showcasing their finest winterwear. Check out Stef Jay wearing our famous fakelite bangles!
So, even though it’s a bit soggy, a tad cold, and smidge blustery the Rhythm Riot is such a wonderful way to wave buh-bye to the calendar of weekenders for the year. We are already looking forward to next year!
